Sleep regularity index (SRI)
The Sleep Regularity Index (SRI) measures how consistent your sleep patterns are and matters because irregular sleep can affect health in various ways. Studies have found that a lower SRI, indicating less regular sleep, is linked to higher risks of mortality, dementia, and cardiovascular issues. For instance, less regular sleep has been associated with an increased risk of death and smaller brain volumes over time. Additionally, individuals recovering from alcohol use disorder are more likely to relapse if their sleep patterns are irregular. The strongest connections involve the impact on overall health outcomes like mortality rates and cognitive decline, as well as cardiovascular events.
The evidence is primarily observational, so while these studies suggest important associations, they do not establish causation.
