Microwaving
Microwaving is a cooking method that uses electromagnetic waves to heat and cook food quickly, and it has implications beyond just meal preparation.
In sanitation technology, microwaving human faecal sludge can effectively treat waste while recovering valuable resources like nutrients. Regarding health applications, microwaving has been used in medical procedures such as antigen retrieval for better visualization of tissue samples and in microwave diathermy to aid recovery from sports injuries by increasing blood flow and reducing pain. In food science, combining microwaving with enzymatic pretreatment can enhance the phenolic content and oxidative stability of oils extracted from safflower seeds.
This method connects strongly to sanitation and health applications like tissue analysis and injury treatment, as well as to food processing techniques that improve nutritional value.
The evidence base is diverse but limited in scope for some applications, so further research could provide more comprehensive insights.
