Methylcobalamin (B12)

Methylcobalamin, a form of vitamin B12, is essential for maintaining healthy nerve function and red blood cell production, making it important for overall health. Studies have found that methylcobalamin can improve cognitive function in middle-aged and elderly individuals with cognitive impairment and may help alleviate symptoms of peripheral neuropathic pain. In diabetic patients, methylcobalamin supplementation has been shown to reduce the severity of diabetic neuropathy over a one-year period. Additionally, it can prevent vitamin B12 deficiency anemia in children and counteract metformin-induced B12 deficiency in type 2 diabetes patients.

Methylcobalamin is linked to protecting against cognitive decline and cardiovascular disease, with moderate evidence from cohort studies and randomized controlled trials. However, more research is needed to fully understand its long-term benefits and mechanisms of action.
