EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a therapy that helps people recover from traumatic experiences by focusing on specific sounds or hand movements while recalling distressing memories, making it an important tool for treating conditions like post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Studies have found EMDR to be effective in reducing PTSD symptoms compared to other psychological therapies. It has also shown promise in managing misophonia and helping children and adolescents with PTSD. Early intervention with EMDR can reduce the severity of trauma symptoms in recent rape victims, highlighting its potential for immediate post-trauma care.

EMDR is closely linked to treatments for PTSD and anxiety disorders, as well as interventions following traumatic events like sexual assault. While evidence supports its efficacy, more research is needed to fully understand its long-term effects and mechanisms of action.
